The tragedy of South Africa is the Volkstaat was there for the taking. These are the dangers of missed opportunities.

General Viljoen the leader of the Afrikaner Volksfront sat down with future President Thabo Mbeki to negotiate for a Volkstaat. And the whole time he was trying to convince a wily Marxist like Mbeki that the Volkstaat was going to be democratic and non-racist.

Why does it matter? Mbeki and his people wouldn’t have to live there.

But that was just how even Afrikaner nationalists thought back then. The end of the Cold War meant the “end of history.” It meant no longer being a blood and soil nationalist. It meant you had to engage in humiliation rituals to try and prove to people who hate you, that you don’t hate them.

Of course the ANC had no intention of giving up its racialist ideology. No, only Whites had to do that.

Sure hindsight is 20/20 and Viljoen was naturally worried about the response of the international community would have had if he actually had gone through with his bluff of a coup threat with the 60,000 Boer commandos under his command.

But you have to try at least. We also know the ANC, particularly Mandela who was trying to sell his “Gandhi” image to the world was afraid of a full blown civil war and were more open to accommodating a Volkstaat than what they told the public.

It was a failure on multiple fronts. A failure of foresight. The De Klerk government didn’t negotiate, they sold out. The intelligence services of South Africa back then were quite good, they could have uncovered just how much doubt Mandela was having, and how much he and Mbeki were willing to compromise on a Volkstaat. Then they could have told General Viljoen’s team.

The ANC was fighting like a team unit. The Afrikaners were not.

The White conservatives didn’t think long term.

They thought about immediate gratification that would come in the form of being welcomed back into the fold of the “international community” and all the financial goodies that entailed.

They didn’t think long term because men like F.W. de Klerk and Roelf Meyer were no longer attached to the soil, to the nation. They had become detached from their own Volk. They had become rootless cosmopolitans.

What did it matter to them if the new South Africa deteriorated and collapsed? They were now part of the Jet set class and could fly off to Australia or Britain.

The common Afrikaner and other White South Africans who didn’t have the luxury of hopping on a jet and escaping to another country or the money to live in gated and well protected estate were not even an afterthought for these men who would make Judas blush. At least Judas came to regret his actions and owned up to his betrayal.

Of course in their short sightedness they couldn’t see that what they helped put in motion in South Africa was going to happen in Australia, Britain and every other European nation.

They secured something for themselves and perhaps their children. But what about the next generations? Where can they flee to when every Western nation becomes like the South Africa their fathers and grandfathers helped usher in?

An Afrikaner Volkstaat was and still is the long term solution. Only in a physical nation of their own can Afrikaners and other White South Africans be free from racial persecution and free to achieve prosperity.

All the “constitutional guarantees” that De Klerk and the other “respectable” conservatives negotiated for aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. The moment Afro-Marxists decide they don’t want to honor those treaties and accords, those documents become toilet paper.

Unlike with civic nationalism and passports, blood and soil ethno-racial nationalism is stronger than mere pieces of paper declaring something to be true. Physical occupancy that you’ve made a reality which you can defend will always trump empty words scribbled on paper.

Yes it’s great that we’re taking in Afrikaner refugees. But it would be even greater to help them build their Volkstaat. A permanent solution to White flight. An example that can in turn help inspire other White folks, from Portugal to Finland and Australia to Argentina to fight for their own long term and permanent solutions to the demographic and cultural onslaught we’re all under now.

As an Afrikaner leader by the name of P.W. Botha said; “Total onslaught requires total strategy.”
